Managua to Estelí, Nicaragua – Google Maps

I just noticed this feature in Google Maps that now in Nicaragua they have actual driving directions and there is even a 3-D option that flies you through the landscape so you see how hilly and/or curvy the roads are.  In this example you go from Managua to Esteli.

To me this is a great assist for travelers looking to better plan their trips, especially if driving oneself.

Just a word of caution, I would add approximately an hour to any destination that Google’s driving time estimate is more than an hour.  So if it says one hour plan on two, if two hours better make that three, etc.

Try the 3-D feature, I think you will enjoy it!

Not sure if I agree completely with this article, but the comment from reader “Brian” is right on about how important elevation is when living in Managua.  We are at 300 meters or about 1,000 feet elevation and when you get near to our farm it really starts feeling cooler.

Despojo a Teonoste espanta inversiones – LA PRENSA — EL Diario de los Nicaragüenses

Now (as I understand it), the head guy of the COSEP is in the video (see link). COSEP, which supposedly looks out for the rights of private investments in Nicaragua is saying mas o menos: “hey this is a legal process and just let it work itself out” meanwhile investors are likely saying “hold on a minute, the government can just come and take our properties?”Way to go and screw up the economy…who in their right mind will invest large amounts of money here now?

COSEP defends case of Punta Teonoste

The precedent that is leaving the theft of 20 acres of land from Punta Teonoste tourism project in Rivas, is serious and not reversed could cripple tourism investment in coastal areas, assessed the deputy of the Nicaraguan Democratic Bench (BDN) and entrepreneur tourism sector, Alfredo Gutierrez.

“I think it would cripple almost to zero any type of tourism investment. If the Intur said that last year authorized 130-odd million dollars in tourism investment, they will go to zero, and also that there may be projects (already approved) to be paralyzed, “Gutierrez said.

The legislator, who is a member of the Tourism Commission of the National Assembly, said that for investors, the fear is grounded to the case of making the PGR to own Panica SA, Carretera a Masaya and now in Punta Teonoste.

“It starts to take the fear starting to have more regular actions in this regard,” said Gutierrez.

The MP said in Teonoste broke with the administrative process, because in case of doubts about the legality of the property, using administrative and legal channels.

In any case not for the PGR to make an assessment, but the Coastal Commission and the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter), as mandated by law for the Coastal Development, noted the legislature.

“The worst is coming and is given to a third … that gives specific dye combined with piñata confiscation, “said Gutierrez.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Hernán Estrada, seized this week via “manu militari”approximately 20 acres of land to Swiss investors and owners Nicaraguans resort Punta Teonoste, to give them away to ex-guerrilla Sandinista Edén Pastora.

As current official unconstitutional regime of President Daniel Ortega, Pastora is now declared “demobilized” of war and entitled to receive benefits covering members of the Nicaraguan Resistance at the time of the peace accords of 1990.

NOVOA: ABUSE OF POWER

For general exprocurador Republic, Alberto Novoa, the actions of the Attorney General under the direction of Estrada are an abuse of power of attorney by the State against a third party.

“The organic law of the PGR and its regulations it does is regulate the function and organization of the institution, gives powers to ensure the rule of law, and how to interpret the rule of law is another thing,” he analyzed.

“The Constitution provides that when there are conflicts between yours and mine, no matter who the complainants, is the judiciary that has to settle disputes,” said Novoa.

“There is no rule that says that the PGR is given powers to intervene by force a private property, much less to give to a third party, use force to do so is an abuse of power of the PGR,” he said.

  • Government takes 20 blocks of land to investors to give it to ex-guerrilla

“The PGR entered the property as bandits, taking land without filing any document with the endorsement of the Police Rivas. This gives a terrible insecurity. “ Walter Bühler Molina, General Manager of Hotel Punta Teonoste.

“The PGR made the decision to give a donation to Eden Pastora 19 blocks, because maybe that Eden Pastora watched the least have or never had anything,” he said yesterday ex-guerrilla Sandinista Edén Pastora Gomez, admitting the theft of property made the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to the Hotel Punta Teonoste SA company, situated in Tola, to give it to him.

The statement was made to channel 100% Pastora News a day after denying it to THE PRESS.
Walter Bühler Molina, general manager of Hotel Punta Teonoste, reported yesterday to the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (COSEP) the violent invasion they suffered.

“The PGR, accompanied by police, stormed the hotel property with ten men who cut down trees and surveyors Ineter intended to erect a fence in the middle of the property. As did not show any documents, the hotel workers were opposed, but as criminals were brought handcuffed in the patrol, “said Bühler Molina, So surprised by the violence of state institutions acted on private property.

This has concerned employers because they have invested two million dollars in property, with the construction of 16 tourist cabins and lack of projects to develop, but this invasion creates instability and insecurity among investors.

VIOLENCE AHEAD OF TOURISTS

“For tourism in Nicaragua is a day of mourning for the outrage perpetrated against us the PGR did before and that gives tourists a bad image the country,” said Walter Bühler Schiffer, a shareholder of Hotel Punta Teonoste.

Investors also said that actions by institutions of government are contradictory unconstitutional speech by President Daniel Ortega, who said he will respect private property.
“With the PGR have had no contact has been a tremendous secrecy. We have tried to communicate with them through ProNicaragua and we had no answer, “Buhler said Schiffer.

COSEP CANATUR AND SUPPORT

Nelson Estrada, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), said that fully support the injured and the government’s position is totally wrong. “If there is a problem with a property to be the judicial system, but do not fall into such gross invasions” he said.
Aguerri Adam Joseph, president of COSEP, said in support of the investors concerned the next board meeting will be at the Hotel Punta Teonoste and will meet this week with the Attorney General of the Republic, Hernán Estrada, to again address the property issues that are outstanding, among these he mentioned the case Panica Investment SA, whose owners are also victims of trespassing by the PGR.
“The earth gives rise to uncertainty and bad signs for our country. Teonoste Punta tourist investment is a Swiss-Nicaraguan family is a big investment and we regret such actions in the country. If there are situations that have to do, use the correct schema to resolve them and not using the security forces, treating as criminals those who care for the property, “said Aguerri.
He said do not want to contextualize these cases as widespread and expected to be isolated cases.“We have no objection that the State may review properties that they believe are the state, which does not accept the use of force.”
PRESS back to the PGR consulted on such cases, but no answer.
