San Juan del Sur, as it is the surf HQ for Nicaragua
This post on TripAdvisor is from somebody from my old hometown, Corona del Mar/Newport Beach, Ca. so I had to figure out a way to respond to his or her question just to say “Hi!”
Turns out, United has what they call an embargo on oversized items, which means no surfboards coming down to Nicaragua until the airline changes policy. So to get to the point (thank you…) not allowing surfboards into the country on that airline creates opportunity for those that rent, buy, or sell surfboards.
The obvious way to resolve the issue is to rent a surfboard, but another option could be to buy a board from a departing surfer or in a surf shop in San Juan del Sur and then re-sell it at the end of the trip. This would probably work better for someone staying a longer period of time.
